संविधान और महिलाओं के अधिकार in Hindi language is part of the Reimagining India Video Lecture Series.
Annie Raja is General Secretary, NFIW
Annie reimagines India as a nation that honors the words of the preamble in the constitution. She discusses how the status of women has a significant bearing on the nation’s development, where better accessibility to their constitutional rights signifies real progress. Increasing privatization since the 1990s has marginalized various communities, especially women. She reveals only 4% of girls finish higher secondary education; maternity entitlements overlook significant beneficiaries, persistent gender wage-gap, low female workforce participation, lack of recognition of their work are few gender-prevalent issues. She discusses rising gender violence towards women, especially minorities, due to increasing religious extremism and misogyny in recent times while advocating for higher female representation and women’s rights by way of collective action of civil society towards a better future.
‘Reimagining India’ hopes to start a conversation to explore the contours of a society that is more just, equal and aligned to the Constitutional values of liberty and fraternity. Over the next two months, beginning from Oct 2, 2021 , 50 lectures on relevant themes by leading public intellectuals and political leaders will provide an alternate vision for the country.
