Space Launch Complex 8 - Spaceport for the Future

2021-10-22 2

2nd Lt Evangeline Borngesser and SSgt Joshua Hunt, 2nd Space Launch Squadron, describe the renovation activities at Space launch Complex 8, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

Designed to improve an underutilized resource with up-to-date launch pad surfaces, electrical, and communications equipment, the new SLC-8 will provide commercial and government space lift providers a new and easily transformable site for test and development.

The updates to the launch complex allow the launch of liquid fueled rockets in addition to the solid fueled rockets that have historically been launched from the site.

Finally, SLC-8 communication infrastructure is in the midst of an update. Soon high-definition video and high-speed data will connect launch complex to launch and safety control facilities on north Vandenberg Air Force Base.
