Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed happiness over the resumption of electricity production in some of the closed units of Suratgarh, Kalisindh and Kota Thermal Plant amid a shortage in coal supply and said that in view of the upcoming festive season, the power supply should be maintained in the state.

He also directed authorities to maintain constant coordination with the Central Government to ensure an adequate supply of coal. The CM Gehlot was reviewing the power supply situation in the state in a meeting held at his residence in Jaipur.

The Chief Minister said that in order to provide relief to the people of the state, the state government has purchased electricity worth Rs 182 crore under the exchange in the month of October. Coal India Limited's subsidiary NCL and SECL are still supplying coal on an average of 5-6 racks per day out of 11 racks allotted to the state. Due to this, the thermal power plants of the state are not able to generate electricity with full capacity.

He also directed the officials to establish contact with the Union Environment Ministry for clearance to start mining in 1136 hectares of the second phase of Parsa Kanta captive coal block and to obtain the clearance at the earliest.
