The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced Bhupendra Patel as the new chief minister of Gujarat. Patel (59) was unanimously elected the BJP legislature party leader during meeting in Gandhinagar on Sunday. His name was proposed by CM Vijay Rupani. Patel will replace Rupani who resigned from the top post on Saturday. Bhupendra Patel is the BJP MLA from Ghatlodiya constituency. He is reportedly a close aide of former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel, who was also an MLA from Ghatlodiya.
