Domestic Flights Resume in Afghanistan

Domestic flights in Afghanistan have resumed after their suspension following the country's takeover by the Taliban. State-run Ariana Afghan Airlines began operating again over the weekend between Kabul and three cities, Herat in the west, Mazar-i-Sharif in the north, and Kandahar in the south.

Airline officials say though the flights have been conducted without a functioning radar system at the capital's airport. A team of Qatari and Turkish technicians has arrived in Kabul to help restart operations at the airport which the U-N says is crucial to providing the country with humanitarian assistance. It remains to be seen however whether other commercial airlines will be willing to offer service.
