Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani held urgent talks with local leaders and international partners on Saturday as Taliban fighters pushed closer to Kabul, capturing Pul-e-Alam – a town 70km south of the capital that is one of the gateways to the city.
Meanwhile, the Taliban launched a multi-pronged assault on Saturday on Mazar-i-Sharif, a major city in northern Afghanistan, as it continues an offensive to capture more cities and provinces across the country
