Rapid spread of Delta variant across the United States has led to a rise in Covid-19 cases in the country. Coronavirus cases & hospitalisations are at a six-month high in the US. This comes as the country battles with low vaccination rates. As per a Reuters tally of public health data, nationwide, Covid-19 cases have averaged 100,000 for three days in a row, up 35 per cent over the past week. The surge of the disease was strongest in Louisiana, Florida & Arkansas. Hospitalisations rose 40 per cent & deaths, registered an 18 per cent uptick in the past week with the most numbers by population in Arkansas. Number of children hospitalised with Covid-19 is rising across the country. California, New York and Virginia have made vaccinations compulsory or weekly testing for state employees. The administration of President Joe Biden set new rules late last month. The rules required federal workers to provide proof of vaccination or face regular testing, mask mandates & travel restrictions. Meanwhile, Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) said, “COVID-19 vaccines help protect you from severe illness, being admitted to the hospital, & death.” CDC also tweeted, “Due to the recent surge caused by the Delta variant, children 2 years or older should wear masks in public indoor settings, including schools.”
