Federer advances after Mannarino retires injured

Roger Federer was under pressure in his first round match at Wimbledon on Tuesday until his opponent, Adrian Mannarino, picked up an injury at the end of the fourth set and was forced to retire.

Mannarino lost the opening set after Federer broke serve in the final game, but the Frenchman won a second set tiebreaker 7-3 and then broke serve twice on the way to taking the third set 6-3.

Eight-time former Wimbledon men's singles champion Federer was a break up in the the fourth set, leading 4-2, when Mannarino lost his footing during a rally and appeared to injure his right knee.

The world number 41 tried to play on, with Federer holding serve and then breaking to take the set 6-2.

The Swiss superstar won the opening point of the deciding set and Mannarino decided to retire from the match.

Federer will face another Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, in the second round
