The temple town of Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, in Tamil Nadu, a UNESCO world heritage site that attracts thousands of tourists from across the globe, looks desolate due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown. The once buzzing streets of this little town are now filled with barricades blocking all the arterial roads.
All the shops selling clothes, attractive stone sculptures, trinkets and restaurants are shut due to the pandemic. Among the top the Archeological Survey of India properties, it awaits a reopening like Taj Mahal, which welcomed back tourists last week.
