Malthus, also sometimes known as Malphas or Halphas, is the often unseen inhuman spirit linked to the creepiest doll in The Conjuring Universe. Although Malthus is the main antagonist of the story, most fans know very little about it, including it's actual name which one comes up once in the series. It appears inside the the text of the demonic spell-book, The Devil's Welcome, which also contains rare details about the demon's complex history.

In this video I'll be analyzing everything we know about Malthus, including it's ancient history, its recent adventures in The Conjurverse, and the possible future of the of this hellish creature.

Malthus in the movies is based off of two separate "real life" influences. Obviously one of them is the supposedly haunted Annabelle doll inside Ed and Lorraine Warren's museum of cursed objects. The other is Ars Goettia, from the grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon, a spellbook that has details on the lore of several supposed supernatural entities. Many of these have appeared in popular fiction like Annabelle, The Conjuring and Hereditary.

So I'll also compare and contrast the "real life" mythology of Malthus to the evil character we see in the movies: The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), Annabelle Creation (2017) and Annabelle Comes Home (2019).
