54 Quezon City residents get Covid-19 after attending parties
Quezon City Mayor Josefina "Joy" Belmonte ordered the city's legal department to issue a show-cause order to a barangay chief and file a complaint against a homeowners' association head in connection with the holding of parties where 54 of those who attended got infected with Covid-19.
Belmonte told The Manila Times that she also ordered the issuance of ordinance violation receipts to those who attended the two events in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon.
The first event was held on May 9 wherein several residents, mostly women, held in an improvised pool party to celebrate Mother's Day. They set up a large inflatable plastic pool for their children in violation of safety and health protocols, the mayor said.
As their children enjoyed the pool, their mothers drank and danced as shown in their posts on Facebook, which alerted city officials.
On May 11, village residents organized a karaoke party despite repeated reminders and warnings from the local officials.
"The city government will not let these incidents pass without holding those who have knowledge and responsibility accountable because what happened was alarming at this time that we are maximizing our resources in battling this pandemic," the mayor said.
