Earlier this season it was rumored that Brad Stevens may leave the NBA in favor of returning to college basketball. Amidst the Celtics' mid-season struggles, Indiana was in need of a new head coach. Since he is from the area, many people linked Stevens as a heavy favorite to take the job, with the Vegas odds even listing him as one.
It was reported that Indiana offered Stevens the job. The offer was supposedly 10 years and $70 million. However, in a recent interview, Stevens said that he was never given this offer. He also stated that he would not have accepted it regardless.
Jeff Goodman and Bob Ryan discuss whether or not Stevens will be the Celtics coach for his entire career. They note that while there are some examples of this (i.e. Gregg Popovich), many of the greatest coaches won with multiple teams. The best example of this being the great Phil Jackson.
