NFL Players Won’t Be Tested for
THC During the Offseason.
On April 20, the NFL opened its random
drug testing window for players.
Unlike past years, players will not be tested
for THC, the chemical found in marijuana.
The new collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
was passed last year by the NFL and the NFLPA.
The exclusion of THC testing
extends from April 20 to August 9.
April 20, aka 4/20, just so happens
to be the popular cult holiday dedicated
to celebrating marijuana. .
In addition, the CBA has raised the
threshold for positive marijuana tests that
occur after the start of training camps.
The threshold has been raised from
35 nanogram to 150 nanograms.
Positive drug tests will also no
longer result in suspensions.
Players will instead have any THC
positive test reviewed by a panel of
appointed medical professionals.
The board will decide if it is necessary
for the player to receive treatment or not.
