Maharashtra COVID-19 Surge: Class 10 Board Exams Cancelled, Health Minister Rajesh Tope Warns Of Lockdown

Maharashtra government on April 20 decided to cancel Maharashtra SSC class 10 board exams amid a rising number of Covid-19 cases. Decision has been taken in view of the worsening coronavirus situation across the country. Varsha Gaikwad, minister (school education), announced the same through her official Twitter handle. The state had already reduced the syllabus by 25 per cent so that it would not be a burden for students. Class 10 were scheduled to be conducted from April 29 to May 31. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) class X ICSE board exams have been cancelled because of the worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Maharashtra is likely to announce stricter curbs on April 21 as a number of other states clamped restrictions on the movement & assembly of people, shut shops & imposed night curfews to arrest surging Covid-19 infections across India. Maharashtra Health minister Rajesh Tope said the cabinet recommended a “strict lockdown” to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. With 62,097 cases in a single day, the overall tally in the state rose to 3,960,359 with 61,343 fatalities.
