The Election Commission of India imposed a ban on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for 24 hours from campaigning in any manner. The ban begins from 8 pm of April 12 till 8 pm of April 13. The ban came over her communal remarks during a speech. ECI also responded to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's reply over her appeal for votes along communal lines and said, “It is self-evident from the perusal of all reports that allegations mentioned in your hand-written note are factually incorrect, without any empirical evidence whatsoever and devoid of substance.” However, Mamata Banerjee announced protest against EC’s decision. She will sit on ‘dharna’ tomorrow from 12 noon at Gandhi Murti in Kolkata.
