India records 89,129 new Covid-19 cases, highest in 6 months

India reported 89,129 new Covid-19 cases and 714 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry. This is the highest single-day rise in cases since September 2020.

As the second wave of the pandemic rages on in the country, several states are putting in place curbs and restrictions to control the spread of the virus. 

Maharashtra on Friday reported 47,827 new cases. With the surge in Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that new set of restrictions, maybe even a lockdown, will be imposed in the state if the situation persists. Watch the video to know more.
