Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 8 addressed Aam Aadmi Party workers from his residence and said he would have gone to support the protesting farmers if he was not stopped. After hours of drama outside Kejriwal's residence over him allegedly being put under house arrest by the Delhi Police, the Chief Minister came outside and addressed the party members. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting with protesting farmers on the evening of December 8, indicating the involvement of the government's highest level to resolve the deadlock over the contentious farm laws – failed. The big meeting scheduled for December 9 with Agriculture Minister Naresh Tomar - the sixth since the protests started - has been called off. Reportedly, farmers' unions were given a presentation on the bills on December 8 and a proposal will be sent to farm leaders on December 9 with written amendments that the government intends to carry out.
