Political scientist Wong Chin Huat told a forum organised by Ideas today that Malaysians want Datukships because they believe it would open more doors for them.
Wong said this will not change until there is a change of mentality among Malaysians.
Earlier this week, a total of five ministers and nine deputy ministers were conferred titles in conjunction with this year's Federal Territory Day celebration.
