Taking the fight against the farm laws to Delhi, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on November 4 staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar to highlight “Centre’s step motherly” treatment towards Punjab. President Ram Nath Kovind turned down Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s request for a meeting to discuss the new laws that triggered massive protests in the state. On November 4, few Congress MLAs including Navjot Singh Sidhu were stopped by police at the Delhi border. Amid the continued suspension of goods trains to Punjab, the ruling Congress party in state and the opposition BJP has remained engaged in a verbal spat over the issue. This comes even as Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh pointed out that no movement of freight trains can have a dangerous consequence on national security. This includes depriving the armed forces in Ladakh and Kashmir of critical supplies ahead of winter. The CM has also been citing how the thermal plants are running out of coal stock & farmers being deprived of fertilizers ahead of the rabi sowing season.
