Kashmir\'s famous Dal Lake froze on January 14 as a severe cold wave in the valley continued with Srinagar recording the coldest night in 30 years. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 8.4 degree Celsius, the coldest temperature recorded in the city since 1991 when the mercury had plunged to minus 11.8 degree Celsius, officials in the weather department told NDTV. The plunge in the minimum temperature has resulted in freezing of water supply pipes. Thick layer of ice has settled over several roads in the city and elsewhere in the valley, making it difficult for motorists to drive. Temperatures plummeted and air pollution shot up in the national capital on January 14 when the morning was as cold as 2°C. The city is in the grip of its second cold wave of the winter, brought on by icy winds from the Himalayan range that are now affecting large parts of the country’s north and northwest. The coldest place in Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 0.2 degree due to the strong winds recorded in the state. Dense fog conditions reported in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar & other places.
