Supreme Court on January 11 made some sharp observations on the deadlock between the farmers and the government on the new agricultural laws, which have triggered the biggest protest in the farm sector in years. SC asked the central government whether it would pause the three controversial laws at the core of massive farmer protests near Delhi or should SC do it, and suggested a committee for negotiations. SC will pass the order on January 12 on whether to stay the farm laws.

Meanwhile, farmers protesting the centre's agriculture laws refused to participate in any committee that may be set up to resolve the weeks-long deadlock. Meanwhile, the Centre has appealed to the Supreme Court to stop a tractor rally of protesting farmers scheduled for January 26, the Republic Day. Farmers have planned to hold a huge rally in Delhi on January 26, if their demands to scrap the contentious farm laws are not.
