Video images from inside the U.S. Capitol late Wednesday captured the aftermath from supporters of President Donald Trump storming the building in a stunning bid to overturn his election defeat. Mobs battled police in the hallways and delayed the certification of president-elect Joe Biden's victory for several hours, leaving the legislative complex in disarray.
The footage showed broken windows, overturned furniture and papers strewn on the interior of the Capitol building. A bust of Zachary Taylor, the 12th president of the United States, appeared to be smothered in blood.
Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley also posted a video to Twitter showing damage sustained to his office.
Police struggled for more than three hours after the invasion to clear the Capitol of rioters before declaring the building secure shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday
