“Never leave the planet without one.” That’s what Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield once wrote about the Victorinox Swiss Army knife in his book, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth. In this episode of “MADE HERE,” Carl Elsener, the CEO of Victorinox, the original maker of the Swiss Army knife, walks us through the production process and the history behind the world’s most popular pocket knife.
Originally, these multipurpose tools were called Schweizer Offiziers-und Sportsmesser, but that name was too clunky and was eventually shortened to ‘Swiss Army knife’ by American soldiers.
