Rainbow of Colors
For a girl that loves color, design her bedroom around the colors of the rainbow. Paint walls a bright lime-green, adding sunshine yellow curtains and handmade rainbow-striped Roman shades over the windows. Outfit the room with white metal or wood-framed furnishings to keep the room light and airy. Add multicolored pillows in polka dots, stripes and geometric shapes to a daybed that hides a trundle bed underneath for overnight guests. Simulate a festive ribbon rainbow by attaching multiple long ribbons to a brass circle. Hang the circle above the bed against the wall and drape the ribbons behind the bed for both a colorful effect and focal point. To balance the room, keep the floor coverings light or neutral.
Sky-Blue and Orange Sherbet
The primary color blue and the secondary color orange, which is made from the primary colors red and yellow, complement each other. When you utilize complementary colors, ensure they have the same tone. Paint walls in a bright orange sherbet, but add window treatments in pumpkin with splashes of red. Striped multicolored Roman shades finish the window treatments. White or white wicker furnishings allow the room's colors to pop. Add a bright electric sky-blue area rug to finish the look.
Peach and Raspberry
Light peach walls with bold shocks of raspberry-painted thrift-store furniture create a pleasing contrast. Top the bed with a multicolored traditional wedding-ring quilt that pulls together many colors. Keep window treatments to a minimum, but use a shade of raspberry in your curtains. A dark peach upholstered reading chair offers a respite from the day's activities. Add daisy-shaped handles and knobs to furniture for a touch of whimsy and splash of yellow.
Greens and Blues
Blue isn't just for boys. Paint the ceiling light blue, but make one wall an accent in a shade of green that complements the blue. Paint starfish on the accent wall in colors of rust, lavender and bright yellow. Instead of a bed, add a couple of futons to the room decked with rust, lavender and bright yellow pillows. Paint an oversized garage sale desk in a dark raspberry. Add a bright, but light blue rug to the floor to echo the ceiling. Install bamboo shades as the window treatment and touches of natural wicker or bamboo elsewhere in the room. A flower-petal ceiling fan keeps the room filled with fresh air.
Mossy Green and Brown
Keep the girl in your life grounded by bringing the colors of nature into her room. Paint walls cerulean blue and add a tree mural to the wall with leafy green leaves. Tie in bedding ensembles, bed skirts and throw pillows by choosing material a shade lighter than the walls, but with the same mossy green leaf pattern throughout. Add a striped throw rug in alternating shades of earthy brown, mossy green, light blue and beige. Paint furniture white and cover a favorite toy box or window seat with padded seats that match the pillow and bedding material. Add white paint to the window trim and inst
