The ace film-maker AR Murugadoss found himself in a soup when an associate director named Varun claimed that the plot of Sarkar was copied from a script he had written a few years ago. Following this, ARM denied these allegations. As a result, the matter reached the South Indian Writers Union. The organisation examined both the scripts and concluded that they were similar. The matter ultimately reached the Madras High Court
