Just as Diwali ends, people from central North India, precisely Bihar & UP start preparing for the holy festival of Chhath. The Sun God festival is celebrated with great zeal. Sun God (Surya Devta) & Chatthi Maiya (Sister of the Sun God), the sources of life and energy that run the world, are worshipped during this festival. Chhath puja almost takes four days and people observing fast have to follow it strictly without water. Devotees have to eat satvik food before the fast & stand in cold river water during the sunset & sunrise to pray to the Sun Gods.
