국정원 "김정은 지금 140㎏…김여정, 국정 전반 관여"
According to South Korea's National Intelligence Service, the sister of the North Korean leader is taking on new duties and accruing more power.
She's already considered her brother's second-in-command.
And Kim Jong-un himself, the agency notes, is obese, but is most likely in good health.
Our Kim Dami has more.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo-jong, is more involved than ever in the regime's governance.
Officially, she is the First Vice Department Director of the North's ruling Workers' Party Central Committee, but at a party congress set for January, she's set to take on even more power.
This is according to South Korea's National Intelligence Service, which said Tuesday that Kim Yo-jong has been active in performing jobs her brother would normally do like taking stock of flood damage and dealing with COVID-19 quarantine efforts.
In the meantime, Kim Jong-un is focusing more on directing policy rather than making on-site visits to places like factories.
In fact, so far this year, Kim has chaired 17 meetings of the politburo.
As for Kim's health, the NIS says it appears to be good, though he is overweight.
He currently weighs around 140 kilograms, which is over three-hundred pounds, having gained almost 60 kilograms over the past eight years.
Elsewhere, the regime is in the final stages of building two submarines, possibly equipped with submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
And as for the South Korean man shot dead last month by North Korean troops, Kim Jong-un has reportedly ordered a probe into the incident.
Pyeongyang claimed last week that it had tried to retrieve the man's body "to no avail."
The 47-year old official working in fishery affairs... was shot and killed when he crossed into North Korean waters off the west coast.
