This is the Land Rover Defender P400e, the plug-in hybrid range-topper for the British brand's hottest new SUV. Land Rover has introduced the short-wheelbase 90 version of the SUV to the range at the same time, along with a range of new mild-hybrid six-cylinder units.
The new plug-in version is only available as a five-door 110 model. The firm describes the P400e as "the most capable and durable electrified Land Rover" – a sign that it intends to retain the car's impressive ability off-road.
As with other Defender 110 models, there are options for five or six-seater interiors, while the P400e gets its own list of standard kit, including 20-inch alloy wheels, air suspension, three-zone climate control and tinted windows.
The good news is that the short-wheelbase Defender 90 is going on sale in the U.S. this model year. It will also be the most affordable way to get a Defender, with a base price of $47,450, whereas the base Defender 110 starts at $51,850. That will get you the base trim level with the turbocharged 2.0-liter 296-horsepower four-cylinder. Also available are X-Dynamic, First Edition and X trims, all of which get the turbocharged 3.0-liter 395-horsepower six-cylinder.
