Niger on Monday, May 4 was struck by a massive sandstorm painting the sky red. Dramatic videos and pictures have gone viral on social media. One widely circulated video shows a huge wall of sand engulfing buildings in Niamey. Another video shows a huge wall of sand taking over the city. Other pictures show the sky painted red by the storm described by some spectators, as per The Express as ‘apocalyptic’. One Twitter user said she had never seen anything like this before which shows the sky painted in red. Sandstorms are common across West Africa during the dry season which usually starts from January and lasts till April.
