Harry Styles' new haircut is a throwback to his Dunkirk days

The ‘Golden’ singer Harry Styles just debuted a haircut that we've seen before

As a result of the Covid-19 lockdowns and the consequential closure of barbershops, 2020 will go down in grooming history as the year we collectively embraced lengthier locks, Harry Styles included.

Over the past six months, the former One Direction member and one-time GQ cover star has allowed his curls (and facial hair) to flourish and we were secretly hopeful that he was planning to grow his hair out a bit, but, alas, he has done the dirty on us and gone for the chop.

Continuing on the crusade that has seen him sport every possible ’do you could imagine (though we’re yet to see a buzzcut from the Cheshire-born singer), Styles debuted his choppy, short-at-the-sides, longer-on-top ’do while out and about in Los Angeles this weekend, which is reminiscent of the shorter, pushed-back barnet he had for the filming of 2017 war film Dunkirk

And, of course, the Fine Line singer's cut has sent the Twittersphere into a frenzy, with users across the globe (his name alone is currently trending in the UK, India and the US) putting out tweets along the lines of, “We had frat boy Harry and now we have Dunkirk Harry” and “He cut his hair… Dunkirk Harry is back.”

But he hasn't gone for the chop because he's about to reprise his role in a second Christopher Nolan movie. No, instead the shorter style has come about because he's about to start filming the Olivia Wilde-directed psychological thriller Don't Worry, Darling, alongside Florence Pugh and Chris Pine.

And if you're missing his longer tresses already, don't panic, because his “Golden” music video is dropping imminently and it was filmed when he still had that glorious over-the-ear style.

But if you are on board and fancy getting Styles' shorter ’do yourself, check out our easy guide to his shorter cut.
