북한, 유엔총회서, '우주개발은 보편적 권리... 군사화 반대'
North Korea, in a thinly veiled defense of its missile programs, has claimed a universal right of countries to develop space technology... while also declaring its opposition to the militarization of space.
The remarks were made at a UN committee meeting on Thursday by the regime's UN ambassador, Kim Song .
According to the North's foreign ministry, Kim said Pyeongyang supports the use of space tech for "peaceful" purposes... and opposes what he called "selectiveness" and "double standards" when it comes to space.
Kim claimed that the North is now among the world's top ten space powers, having put four satellites into orbit.
The fourth one, called Kwangmyeongseong 4, was launched in 2016.
The Security Council strongly condemned its launch... as a violation of UN resolutions.
