조수 유입으로 침수 잦은 베네치아...8조원 투입한 조수차단벽 성공
A long-awaited flood barrier system known as Mose, has successfully protected Venice from a high tide, bringing relief to city residents who have suffered years of repeated inundations.
City officials had forecast a tide of up to one-hundred-30 centimeters on Saturday, enough to leave low-lying areas submerged under water.
But the barrier system which was designed to protect Venice from tides of up to 3 meters worked effectively, and managed to keep the streets dry.
The long-delayed defense system has so far cost around 7 billion U.S. dollars, and taken 17 years to build.
