‘여성운동 대모’ 이효재 교수 별세...향년 96세
One of the first generation of South Korea's female scholars Lee Hyo-jae has died at the age of 96.
Referred to as the "godmother of women's studies", the emeritus professor at Ewha Womans University died from sepsis on Sunday.
Professor Lee was at the forefront of efforts to achieve gender equality.
She helped abolish the patriarchal family system, introduced the 50 percent female quota for the National Assembly ...and pushed for equal pay for equal work.
She also laid the foundations for solving the so-called "comfort women" issue.
Her funeral will take place at 8 AM on Tuesday in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do province.
