This is the moment that jubilant villages ransack a truck full of beer which has fallen into a muddy ditch, wading in to grab beer among cheers from onlookers. The incident was captured in Jurunas neighbourhood of the city of Belem, in the Brazilian North Region on Wednesday, 30th September. According to national newspaper G1, the beer truck, inside which were two people, came off the road when it turned over to avoid a car, and fell into the ditch. The videos show a noisy crowd of people surrounding the overturned truck, and young men and women wearing shorts with no shoes wade into the mud to grab the beer. One man can be seen putting the cans on his bike and another walking fast down the road carrying two six-packs in his hands. One person filming from a car can be heard shouting: “Lots of beer, lots of beer.” A crane can be seen at the side of the road to pull the truck out of the road. The police were called to the scene of the incident and cordoned off the area to prevent what remained of the cargo being looted. According to G1, the narrow road and ditch full of rubbish is a constant source of complaints from residents and another cargo truck fell off in June too. In a note, the Municipal Sanitation Secretariat (Sesan) informed that the section of the road where the accident occurred is within the schedule of the works for a stop-gap program. Also according to the secretariat, twice a day garbage and rubbish collection is carried out on the site and environmental education work is carried out every three months with residents and workers of the area.
