Schoolgirl knocked over by pickup truck when drive turns without looking in mirrors

This is the shocking moment a schoolgirl was knocked over by a pick-up truck as she rode home on a scooter.

Naphak, 13, was overtaking the vehicle in front at a busy conjunction in Samut Prakan, central Thailand when the incident happened on August 31.

However, the driver appeared to turn without checking his mirrors and did not notice the approaching teenage.

Dashcam footage shows Naphak being knocked over, sending her skidding along the road into the path of an oncoming driver.

Motorists rushed to help her before calling the emergency unit to give her first aid before they took her to the hospital.

The girl was suffered a broken collarbone along with grazes on her face, arms and legs from where she skidded along the tarmac.

Speaking after, Naphak said she was on the way to pick up her younger brother when the accident happened.

She said: "I thought the pickup truck would not change the lane, so I decided to overtake him."

The pickup driver, after checking that the girl was okay, rushed to the police station to explain about the incident.

The girl's mother Rasika, 36, was informed about the incident and arrived at the hospital to see her daughter.

The worried mother said they want compensation from the driver.

She said: "We already watched the dashcam footage and found my daughter was just riding on her way but was almost crushed by the reckless driver. They have to help us with the medical bills and repair bill for her bike.''

The girl is in a stable condition and recovering from her wounds.

Meanwhile, her family asks that the man be punished for allegedly failing to be careful while driving on the road.

The local police said they will mediate between the two groups to find a solution.

In Thailand, cases that are settled at the police station before being committed to court result in significantly higher 'fines' or 'compensation' for victims than if the suspect is found guilty after lengthy legal proceedings.
