Sinn Fein Councillor Tina Burke has called on Derry & Strabane Council to hold discussions on earlier opening times for cemeteries in the city and district.
Her call comes after the Council announced last week it was closing the cemeteries an hour earlier, and ahead of the cemetery’s Autumn opening hours when it close much earlier.
Following the closure of all cemeteries during lockdown, the Council reopened the cemeteries but only from 2.30pm, stating that this was to facilitate those attending funerals in the mornings and afternoons.
Many local people however have over recent weeks expressed concern that this has not been reviewed to allow for earlier opening times. at the cemeteries.
