Face masks has become a daily necessity.
But a new trend is adding new accessories like straps and beads to make it more convenient and fashionable.
Lee Kyung-eun reports.
People in South Korea have upped their games with their face masks.
One way to do so,...by using this mask straps or mask necklaces.
"It's safe because I don't have to put it on a table that could be contaminated. Also, it's always hanging around your neck so I don't have to worry about losing it."
"It is my first day using it. It was especially handy when eating lunch because I didn't have to keep moving my mask."
People can find these at supermarkets, book shops, or online stores,...with prices ranging from one to three U.S. dollars.
Experts warn that the inner side of the masks can potentially be exposed to the virus when hung around people's necks,...so some straps come with these protective pouches.
And DIY mask straps are rising sub-trend.
On YouTube and Instagram, tens of thousands of people have uploaded their own straps,... which is very simple -- all you need is a strap and a snap button or a ring.
"But people who want to be a bit more creative can visit this kind of market.
Here in Dongdaemun market, a whole new section has sprung up, selling materials for mask straps.
The market offers a variety of bands and colorful beads, which anyone can use to make their own unique strap.
"It costs only a dollar to make one, it's very easy to get into."
The owner says, people are also using the straps as fashion items,...with the trend likely to continue for the time being.
"These beads were usually summer-special items, but as the demand for masks is likely to continue, these items will be popular for a while."
Another trend is decorating mask sheets by using instant tattoos or embroidery.
These activities are now going viral as people look for a new hobby,...especially when other activities are not possible.
