In 2009, the USPS shipped 1.2 million pounds of baby chicks in the first six months of the year. But this year, the USPS is facing a number of challenges. They include dismantled mail-sorting machines, cutbacks on overtime, and other "restructuring" efforts. Those changes have affected mail-order baby chicks in the worst possible way.And they've also affected shipments of food and other perishables too. .Earlier this month, a shipment of 800 chicks all died during transport. And one facility was "filled with gnats" because of the undelivered packages that were filled with rotting foods. .Sadly, the Postmaster General isn't planning on making any changes until after the upcoming election in November
