취침 전 스마트폰 과다 사용, 우울•불안감 유발한다
A lot of people these days stay awake later than maybe they ought to looking at their smartphones in bed.
But studies show it's better to put the phone away, because it can cause sleep disorders... and even depression and anxiety.
Park Se-young has this report.
This young man often uses his smartphone before going to bed.
He usually watches videos or uses social networking applications.
But according to a study by South Korean researchers, smartphone use before bedtime can ruin your sleep.
People who procrastinate before going to sleep actually spent four-and-a-half times longer on their smartphones than those who try to sleep straight away.
And compared to people who slept normally, the smartphone users' depression levels were 25 percent higher and anxiety levels 14 percent higher.
"People who watch a lot of videos on their smartphones before bed reported more depression in their daily lives, and those that use a lot of messaging services reported increased insomnia."
Experts say smartphone use can be naturally reduced if enough social needs are filled through sufficient conversation or exercise during the day.
They also warned against increased risk of obesity and diabetes caused by reduced sleep.
