Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava spoke on how Atmanirbharta had has an effect on India’s economy and said that in a country as big as India – a large part of the country’s requirements –including raw materials, components—should have ideally been produced in the country itself even before this Atmanirbhar Bharat was announced. He, however, said that nobody can be fully independent as well. There are certain raw materials not available in India, certain technologies that have very large economies of scale—so it’s not that one should aim at 100% self -sufficiency in everything. But the caution is that what we do in India must also be competitive with the rest of the world—quality-wise and cost-competitive, said Bhargava. Atmanirbharta will follow from creating conditions in India which allow for manufacturing to grow rapidly which in turn attract investment in manufacturing from investors from all over the world.
