Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Hanipa Maidin said the Government is committed to separating the powers of the public prosecutor and attorney-general but cannot risk rejection should the motion be brought to Parliament.
Hanipa said this when asked to comment on the supplementary question raised by Datuk Johari Abdul (PH-Sungai Petani) in Parliament on Wednesday where Johari suggested the Government set up a committee to consider amending the constitution.
The minister said this was because the Government did not have a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat and the matter required a constitutional amendment.
