The Indian National Congress was formed in 1885, in 1907 it split into two faction, extremists - Garam Dal (hot faction) led by Tilak The Garam Dal is considered as a triumvirate comprising apart from Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipinchandra Pal.According to Bhatt and Bhargava, the differences between the two factions of the Congress paralyzed it, due to which "the agitation for independence ran out of steam and it remained so till the end of the first world war".
कांग्रेस में सबसे पहले स्वराज का लक्ष्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक ने अपनाया। 1907 में कांग्रेस में दो दल बन गए थे। गरम दल का नेतृत्व बाल गंगाधर तिलक, लाला लाजपत राय और बिपिन चन्द्रपाल कर रहे थे। इन्हें लाल-बाल-पाल भी कहा जाता था। इस तिकड़ी ने मिलकर देश में क्रांति की हवा चलाई, और उस समय के युवा वर्ग में स्वतंत्रता के लिये जोश भर दिया था जो कि संघर्ष करके जल्द ही स्वतंत्रता पाना चाहते थे।
