NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century and replaces the thirty-four year old National Policy on Education, 1986.
This policy aims to transform India into a vibrant knowledge society making both school and college education more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, suited to 21st century needs and aimed at bringing out the unique capabilities of each student.
1. Our educational system had a rule that was – after class -10 , the students had to choose one subject group . For example, he / she chose science group, but he / she was also interested in English, but could not. So now, government has changed the plan, means everyone can choose their own subjects from any group.
2. The Government have replaced the existing 10+2 academic structure with the 5+3+3+4 system now . The new system will cover four stages:
* Foundational Stage (in two parts, that is, 3 years of Anganwadi/pre-school + 2 years in primary school in classes 1-2; both together covering ages 3-8),
* Preparatory Stage for (classes 3-5, covering ages 8-11)
* Middle Stage for (classes 6-8, covering ages 11-14), and
* Secondary Stage for (classes 9-12 in two phases, i.e., 9 and 10 in the first and 11 and 12 in the second, covering ages 14-18). Not only that, all students will take school examinations in classes 3, 5, and 8 which will be conducted by the appropriate authority.
3. From class 6, students would have to do internships in vocational training jobs. The students would be imparted experience in such jobs
4.The report card that is the progress card, that we get after a year , is provided by our teachers, that means until now, the teachers assess how the child has performed in the entire year, but now ,assessment will be done ,not only by the teacher, but the student will also shelf evaluate themselves that how they have performed in the entire year, according to themselves. Not only that, the rest of the students will also evaluate and say how that student has performed.
5. the government has decided at least 6% of the GDP will be spent on education. right now it is around 3%.
6. The medium of instruction until at least Grade 5, but preferably till Grade 8 and beyond, will be the home language/ mother tongue /local language/regional language.Sanskrit will be offered at all levels of school and higher education as an important, enriching option for students, including as an option in the three-language formula.
Other classical languages and literatures of India, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Pali, Persian, and Prakrit, will also be widely available in schools as options for students.Foreign languages, such as Korean, Japanese, Thai, French, German,
