행안부가 지정한 여름휴가철 걷기 좋은 섬 12곳
Although it's raining hard in the South Korean capital and the central region,... the enjoyable weather in southern parts of the peninsula is perfect for those on their summer vacation.
This year the South Korean government has recommended a list of holiday islands where vacationers can easily avoid too much contact with big crowds.
Our Kim Bo-kyoung shows us one of those islands.
Surrounded by the blue sea, islands make the perfect places to relax on a summer vacation.
Since 2016, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been announcing lists of recommended islands for people to visit during their summer vacation.
This year, islands where people can minimize contact with others have been chosen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most of the islands on the list are great for hiking and trekking. The island of Isu-do is one of them.
Isu-do Island is a ten-minute journey from the eastern part of Geoje-do Island in Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
A long trekking trail goes around the entire island,... taking visitors to every corner of Isu-do.
They can enjoy the fresh air, away from the crowded city.
"Lots of people are hesitant about going on summer vacation because of COVID-19,... and we decided to come to an island where we thought there is very clean air and water. Our four families came together and we want to come here again because the air is so clean."
An observatory gives visitors a great view of the island.
People are awed by the scenery unfolding in front of their eyes,... while a soft wind cools their sweats after a long trek.
“In the middle of the trekking course, visitors can see another attraction this wooden suspension bridge with stunning views of the ocean below."
"I've come here for the first time after searching on the Internet. The food is good, people are nice and most of all, the fresh air and the wide open space makes us happy."
And the coast is great for fishing, or just enjoying with the family.
"I have visited Isu-do Island thanks to a friend's suggestion. We can see beautiful scenery, paddle in the water or do some fishing. It's so beautiful and nice to be here."
Being away from the busy city life with crowds and enjoying fresh air instead of stuffy masks gives visitors a chance to heal and forget about all their worries.
