Police launch fifth firearm amnesty

For the fifth time since democracy, amnesty is being granted to South Africa’s gun owners to hand in illegal or unwanted firearms to police. The six-month amnesty starts this month and will end in January next year. Firearm ownership remains a divisive topic in a country where 58 people are murdered daily. Firearms were used in over 7,300 murders last year.
