"주한미군, 주둔하는 것이 맞을 것…남북정상 간 합의, 국회 비준 바람직"
Over at the National Assembly transpired a confirmation hearing for Unification Minister nominee Lee In-young today.
Lee, who if confirmed will be in charge of inter-Korean affairs, said he believes U.S. troops should remain in South Korea as their presence is essential for the strategic balance of power in the region and significant in maintaing Seoul-Washington alliance.
On whether parliamentary ratification of the Panmunjeom Declaration is needed, Lee said that it is "desirable" as ratification could helpful in carrying out the agreements made with North Korea even post-Moon administration.
Panmunjeom Declaration is an agreement adopted by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during their first historic summit in April 2018.
