Fire crews were today battling a blaze on one of the most sought-after mountains by tourists in Taiwan.

Flames broke out at a mountain known as Mawuzuoye, opposite Wuling Farm, on June 24 morning and spread through the dense forests in the National Scenic Area.

The fire reached all the way to Heping District in Ping-Ting which is several miles away and continued throughout the night. It was still burning today (June 26).

Helicopters have dumped water on the raging mountain fire after fire crews struggled to make the three hour walk to reach the blaze's remote location.

Hsuan Hui Jung, who lives near the burning vegetation, recorded the huge fire that can be seen from outside her window on June 25.

She said: "It is such a pity, just terrible. After all, our mountains are so beautiful and they have been burned by this disaster.''

Dozens of firefighters and a number of helicopters are still trying to contain the fire from spreading.
