Rescuers struggled to retrieve two pet dogs that were drowning in a deep well after accidentally falling inside while they were playing.

Devastated owner Channipa Klinhom heard her two pet dogs crying for help from the bottom of a water hole after they were playing tug of war around her garage in Saraburi province, central Thailand on June 22.

Emergency workers rushed to the property to take the dogs out of the 26ft deep well. The rescue operation lasted for around half an hour.

One female Thai mongrel named Choc survived with CPR while another male Pit Bull named Carbon was already dead when he was pulled out. He is believed to have passed out while struggling to breathe underwater.

Rescuers pulled the unconscious Pit Bull out of the well using a long rope wrapped around its body. Carbon was assisted with chest compressions for more than ten minutes, but he did not make it.

The dead dog was later carried away in a sack to be taken to the local Buddhist temple for religious rites.

Channipa said her two pets were excitedly running around the garage when both suddenly took wrong steps, falling into the deep water pit.

She said: "I keep replaying the scene in my mind when I saw them falling into the hole. I'm heartbroken that Carbon died. He had so much energy and was always putting himself in danger.''
