A Lidl store in France attracted huge crowds on Wednesday (June 17) after it launched its new deal for the Sony PlayStation 4, selling it for just 95 euros ($106) instead of the usual price around 290 euros.

Footage shows the crowd of 300 people in the north-central town of Orgeval clambering to get into the store before police were called to disperse the crowd.

Video shows the crowd being pepper-sprayed.

A spokesperson for the shop said: "We were very surprised by the enthusiasm and we apologise for the inconvenience caused."

"Today, we believe that the security conditions are not met to keep the supermarket open. The sale of the PS4 is also permanently cancelled.".
