Trump Signs Executive Order Creating Incentives for
Police Departments President Donald Trump signed
the order on Tuesday, which
will create a database to
track police misconduct. The administration’s order rejects nationwide
calls to “defund the police,” which would
reallocate police budgets to other departments. Police departments will instead
receive federal grant money for
updating their standards on
training and credentialing. The order will also give departments
incentives for utilizing professional
workers, such as social workers,
for nonviolent issues. The action comes as lawmakers
push for police reform in light of the
killing of George Floyd while in police custody.
